Sunday’s morning briefing follows.

img_2438Spain said that Barcelona will be the docking port for an aid boat that rescued 60 migrants in waters near Libya but was not allowed to land by both Italy and Malta. A spokesman with the prime minister’s office said the Open Arms boat, run under Spanish flag by the Barcelona-based aid group Proactiva Open Arms, had the right to dock in the eastern city.

 

 

pilatus.pngThe Malta Financial Services Authority has recommended that the European Central Bank withdraw Pilatus Bank’s license following the indictment in the US of the bank’s owner, Ali Sadr Hasheminejad, and breaches in liquidity coverage.

In other news from Malta we read that hundreds of people gathered in front of Parliament on Saturday calling on politicians to protect trees and the overall environment. A banner reading ‘bypasses are still not a solution’ and others calling for politicians to ‘save our soil’ led the way as activists made their way down Republic Street.(Times)

In a private Facebook message shared with NBC News by a former U.S. official, U.S. Ambassador James D. Melville Jr. said he will retire on July 29. The announcement was first reported by Foreign Policy magazine.
