Seven workers suspended over elderly man’s disappearance from care home: Four security officers, two carers and a nurse at the St Vincent de Paul Residence have been suspended on half pay upon the instructions of the Public Service Commission following the disappearance of an elderly resident. They were suspended after an inquiry found they had allegedly failed to follow procedures resulting in the disappearance of Carmelo Fino, also known as Karmenu and Charlie.
Marsaxlokk parish priest ‘misappropriated’ tens of thousands on porn sites: As he faces money laundering charges in court, Marsaxlokk parish priest Luke Seguna is believed to have spent nearly €150,000 of parishioners’ money on pornographic websites. According to sources close to the investigation, Seguna was accused of misappropriating parishioners’ donations and using large amounts on sites that provide live sex shows by performing artists for a fee. This is believed to have gone on for several years. Seguna is said to have told investigators he was going through a “sexual crisis” brought on by a major health issue at the time.
Hamrun mayor called for increased resources after massive brawl: Hamrun Mayor Christian Sammut appealed for more police presence is needed in the roads and squares of the locality of Hamrun to ensure the safety of its residents. He was reacting to news of a rowdy fight which took place yesterday afternoon, involving 20 men, close to the police station. Two people were hospitalised.

Work on central due diligence agency to begin next month
Government has announced that the process to set up a new centralised due diligence agency will begin next month. Financial services firms and practitioners have often complained that similar procedures are undertaken by different government entities. Instead, the new agency will run checks on foreign direct investment and warranted professionals offering corporate services. Economy Minister Silvio Schembri also said that government will begin work on the reforms that will introduce the right for businesses to open a bank account and a tribunal for those businesses that have been refused a bank account. Lombard registers three-fold increase in profits
Lombard Bank Group has announced a profit before Tax of €17.2m, in H1 2022, up from €5.4m for the same period last year, while the Bank’s Profit before Tax was €18.3m, up from €4.0m in H1 2021. It said that these results include a significant recovery on a long outstanding non-performing loan net of the accrual for higher regulatory contributions to the Depositor Compensation Scheme, as well as lower profits at MaltaPost p.l.c. for the first half of its financial year.
