The United Kingdom has registered the worst day since the onset of the virus with 854 people losing their lives, a significant increase compared to the 439 deaths registered yesterday and the 621 on Sunday.

As large chunks of the British public remain stuck to their television sets and social media outlets waiting for news on the Prime Minister’s health, the NHS announced that 758 people died in England, 74 in Scotland, 19 in Wales and three people died in Northern Ireland.

These figures show that while 200 people lost their lives in the first 17 days since the announcement of the first death, the grim threshold of 6,000 was reached in 17 further days.

Yet this figure could be solely the tip of the iceberg if modelling published by the University of Washington is to believed. This research, published today, has indicated that up to 66,000 persons in the United Kingdom will lose their lives at the current rate of spreading of the epidemic.
