Twelve Israelis, some under 18, were arrested in Cyprus on suspicion that they raped a 19-year-old British tourist at a hotel in the resort town Ayia Napa.
The woman, 19, filed a complaint with police in Ayia Napa on Wednesday morning saying she had been gang-raped the previous night.
Some of the Israelis arrested are reportedly as young as 16.
One of the Israeli tourists who was arrested on arrival at the Famagusta District Court in Paralimni, Cyprus. The court decided to extend the men’s remand by eight days on Thursday, while local media reported the woman is expected to undergo further medical examinations.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that it was aware of the suspects’ arrests.
