Libya Observer: The Libyan coastguards rescued Saturday 152 illegal immigrants including 19 women and three children on two different boats.
The Libyan Navy Forces spokesman Ayoub Qassim said the illegal immigrants were from African countries, adding that the first boat was rescued off Zuwara while the second off Garabulli.
“The second boat was rickety so the Libyan oil tanker Anwar Al-Khalij helped them out before the coastguards had arrived to the rescue.” Qassim explained, saying they were sent to Tripoli Naval Base before they were sent to Tajoura illegal migration center.
In a separate operation, Alwadi Operations Room personnel in Sabratha intercepted over 80 illegal immigrants including women and children off the city’s shores, adding that the African migrants were sent to the Anti-Illegal Immigration Authority.
Last week, the UN Security Council imposed sanctions six human traffickers – two Eritrean and four Libyans – for smuggling people in Libya.
