200,000 attend Milan anti-racism protest

Italian media headlines, amongst them Corriere della Sera, are dominated by the huge crowds that on Saturday gathered in Milan to protest against racism and spurned by what the organisers said is a government that promotes fear and hatred to spread division.

It is estimated that around 200,000 people turned out in the city in Lombardy.

Italy Anti Racism Demonstration

Milan is situated in the Lombardy region where La Lega has strong support. Deputy prime minister and La Lega leader Matteo Salvini says the government’s new immigration policies will “make Italy safer”.

Demonstration was held under the slogan People First, and a mission statement was issued saying diversity is a cultural treasure.
