Morning Briefing 21st May 2018

Good morning

 Our late morning briefing and update follows.

 An earthquake was felt in Tunisia. No reports of damages or casualties was reported so far. But the Tunisian earthquake isn’t the only natural phenomenon which is taking place. A lot of alarm has been raised in Hawaii, as lava from Kilauea Volcano hits the ocean and creates laze.

In Libya, flights resumed to and from the airport of Misrata, while France proposed an election plan to end the Libyan political stalemate.

The USA took a step back from the trade dispute with China, though the most talked about issue in the States remains the umpteenth school shooting which happened in Texas. The 10 people killed in the shooting were named. The list includes a young woman, who according to her mother turned down a number of advancements by the perpetrator.

In Cuba, the black box of the Boeing which crashed soon after take off was found. Amongst the 110 people who died, there were 20 priests.

In Venezuela’s controversial elections, Nicolas Maduro won a second term. A very important election is expected to take place in Turkey. Turkish President Erdogan went to Sarajevo to get support from voters living there.

Two days after the Royal wedding, the Duke and Duchess of Sussexwill be engaged in their first formal royal engagement.

Pope Francis on Sunday, announced the appointment of 14 new cardinals, aimed to reflect the universality of the Catholic church. French Police are investigating rape accusations against film director Luc Besson.

In the UK, Chelsea’s FC owner Roman Abramovic’s process to have his UK visa renewedhas met hurdles. In fact he didn’t attend the FA Cup final, which saw his team beat Manchester United. The Camp Nou of Barcelona was turned into a spectacular theatre to bid farewell to one of the club’s longest serving and successful players, Andres Iniesta.

Malta’s newspapers carries reports to the speeches delivered by the political leaders, the controversy following the censorship of Dominican Priest Fr Mark Montebello. They also feature more leaks from the emails exchanged with Electrogas and the shortage of workers in the hospitality sector.
