Touring, the main motoring organisation providing roadside assistance in Belgium, issued a warning that roads look set to be congested on the Easter weekend throughout Europe.
What is known as ‘Code-red congestion’ is to be expected as people leave for the Easter vacation on 19 and 20 April and on Easter Monday, 22 April, when most will be returning home.
Touring forecasts traffic snags (orange) for departures on Friday 5 April and Saturday 6 April in Belgium and Switzerland, then on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 April in Belgium, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Travel will be much more complicated on the Easter weekend. For departures, traffic will be very dense from late Friday morning to Saturday morning. .
