The Council of Cardinals wants more women in Vatican posts

The Council of Cardinals (C9), which advises Pope Francis on reforms of the Catholic Church, in its latest meeting this week, tackled the issue the presence of women in top jobs in the Vatican.

Vatican spokesman Alessandro Gisotti said that the C9 discussed the need for the greater presence of women in management roles in Holy See bodies. The pope was present at the 29th session of the C9, which ended Wednesday and which actually has six members after three were removed and not replaced last year.

Gisotti also emphasized that it is not the first time Pope Francis, or the Vatican, have considered the issue of women in the Church.

He highlighted, as an example, the April 10 appointment of Dr. Amalia D’Alascio as a head of office in the Vatican’s Apostolic Library.
