5.0 earthquake strikes near Puerto Rico

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck near the south coast of Puerto Rico Tuesday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey said. There have been no reports of damage or injuries.

The initial tremor struck at 9:45 a.m. EST and was centered 13.6 miles south of Guanica, Puerto Rico.

The USGS initially estimated the quake’s magnitude at 5.3 before downgrading it to 5.0.

USA Today reports that Puerto Rico has been recovering from a 6.4 magnitude quake in January that killed one person and left much of the island without power.
