Former owner of Fiorentina, Cecchi Gori, arrested in Italy

Italian security forces have arrested  Vittorio Cecchi Gori, film producer and former owner of Fiorentina football club, after an execution order for the imprisonment issued by the Prosecutor General of the Court of Appeal of Rome for a cumulation penalty 8 years, 5 months and 26 days in prison relating to financial crimes including a fraudulent bankruptcy.

Italian media is reporting that Cecchi Gori is now being kept in the  Rebibbia prison.
Cecchi Gori owned the football club A.C. Fiorentina from 1993 to 2002, as well as the private television channel La7. On 3 June 2008, he was arrested in Rome for bankruptcy and on 25 July 2011 again. He was also senator from the Italian People’s Party.

According to the Italian media, the 77-year-old was taken in by the authorities on Friday after losing the final stage of his appeal process.

The various cases had all been postponed pending both appeals and his health status..

This legal battle has been dragging on since 2008 following the collapse of his cinema company Safin.

Cecchi Gori was the President of Fiorentina and his tenure ended in the bankruptcy of the club.
