UK registers large increase in deaths, authorities point at Easter weekend reporting lag

The United Kingdom registered another staggering increase in deaths today, with 861 people losing their lives on Thursday. This takes the number of people dying in British hospitals past the 13,700 mark.

Chief Medical Officer Professor Chris Whitty explained that this spike may be explained by a probable lag in reporting over Easter weekend. This increase follows four days where the increases were below 800.

The UK Department of Health explained that swab tests continued to increase, with 18,665 carried out during the past 24 hours. The country has carried over 417,000 tests, with 103,093 individuals resulting positive.

Once again, England had the highest number of deaths, with the NHS indicating that 740 people perished in the largest home nation today.
