Commemoration of Holocaust victims in Budapest

Hungarian Minister of Justice Judit Varga pays tribute to the victims as she stands next to cast iron shoes, a memorial of Holocaust victims on the bank of River Danube, in Budapest, Hungary.

The Holocaust Memorial Day marks the 76th anniversary of the beginning of the Hungarian holocaust during which almost 600 thousand Jewish Hungarians were deported to Nazi death camps.

The memorial was erected on 16 April 2015 to the memory of the victims shot into the Danube by Arrow Cross militiamen in 1944–45.

Due to the pandemic of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 public gatherings are not allowed in Hungary.
