Malta: EU states surprised by Malta’s Operation Irini veto

Malta Today says that members of the EU’s Politico-Military Group were stunned by Malta’s withdrawal from Operation Irini, launched a few months ago to enforce an arms embargo in Libya. The paper says that Malta’s decision vetoes EU funds for the project.

The paper carries an interview with Chris Barbara, chairman of the Department of Pathology. Dr Barbara warned that a second wave of the coronavirus could be more lethal if people start letting their guards down too soon.

Another story reports that a man lost his life after being shot by a stun gun by Rapid Intervention police and being administered a sedative injection by a doctor. The police reported uncontrolled behaviour and believe that the man may have had a drugs problem.
