President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca expressed her gratitude to the people saying “There’s no nation quite like ours. This is a unique country. In England and in Italy, and other countries like Belgium, fundraising events do not raise as much money as Malta does.
At the beginning she said the Maltese have a reason to be celebrating the generosity and solidarity of the Maltese at the end of 12-hour charity telethon L-Istrina, which kicked off at noon on Wednesday.
In her final appeal as president, Ms Coleiro Preca said there was not one activity she attended where people did not express their gratitude for the help received.
This year’s edition of L-Istrina – the annual telethon to raise funds for the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation – kicked off at noon with speeches by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne and Opposition Leader Adrian Delia.
