Situation in Libya, Bilateral relations and Migration tops Maltese and Libyan Prime Ministers meeting’s agenda

Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and Libyan counterpart Fayez al-Sarraj held a meeting during a scheduled, fleeting visit by the Libyan Prime Minister on Wednesday.

Bilateral relations, the current situation in Libya, and the migrants issue topped the agenda of talks between Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and Libyan Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj at the Auberge de Castille. Referring to relations between the two countries, Prime Minister Muscat said that Malta is ready to help Libya in a post-conflict scenario and is keen to see Libya regain its full potential, The Malta Independent reported.

In introductory remarks, reported by MaltaToday, Muscat said “We need to discuss the migration-related work we are doing and the work you are doing and how we can coordinate better… we also need to discuss the security and humane aspects of how migrants are treated in Europe and Libya.”

He added that the situation in Libya was one of great interest to Malta. In his remarks, Serraj said the Libyan government wanted to discuss economic reforms and illegal migration.
