The GRTU said that 51 percent of businesses registered an increase in sales in 2018 compared to the previous year. One News reports on the Business Performance Survey conducted by the Union among 250 businesses. MaltaToday quotes GRTU CEO Abigail Mamo who said that local traders find it unfair that Malta’s corporate tax system favours foreign companies.

Minister Konrad Mizzi said the government is withdrawing the deal made with the Corinthia Group over transfer of land in St George’s Bay. The Times said that the draft agreement was strongly resisted by the Opposition, business leaders, and organisations. The Minister said a new agreement will be presented soon.

Government is amending the leasing law to facilitate the transfer of government land for agricultural use. TVM quotes Environment Minister Jose Herrera who said that agricultural land falling into disuse will now be able to be transferred to other farmers.

The largest student car park on the University grounds will be closed as from Monday as works on a new complex start in the coming week. Newsbook says that students were notified on Friday afternoon by a terse note from the University. The project is expected to take two year to be completed.

Law Commissioner Franco Debono suggested that President Coleiro-Preca has been asked to lead the constitutional convention to keep her from contesting the MEP elections. Debono, interviewed by The Malta Independent, said he was originally tasked with spearheading the convention.

More than 300 people are estimated to be homeless in Malta, according to conference on the subject held on Friday. Net News says that researches believe that 27 individuals are living on the street while another 300 are living in cars, unable to afford housing.

Footballer Maria Farrugia has joined English side Sunderland AFC, making her debut this weekend against Blackburn Rovers in the FA Women’s National League. LovinMalta says the 17-yaer-old from Għasri also plays for the national team.

An international inquiry led by the United Nations into the death of Washington Post journalist Jamal Kashoggi concluded that the state of Saudi Arabia was involved in the killing. The Shift Newssaid that the investigation obtained evidence that includes ‘chilling and gruesome’ recordings.
