These are the main news from Malta as reported in Malta’s news portals for Friday.

A British citizen resident in Malta filed a €1 billion case against Banque Paribas accusing the bank of reputational damage to his private equity investment company. The Times quotes lawyer Pio Valletta who accused the bank of ‘anti-Semitic acts’.

 

Net News reports that government paid €200,000 for the mobile classrooms installed at St Paul’s Bay primary school.  The portal says that that the ‘containers’ were purchased by direct order and that there are plans to introduce more in other schools.

 

Meanwhile, MaltaToday says that the 160-year-old building serving as the Victoria primary school is not in a safe state. The website speaks to worried parents who said that the building is falling to pieces.

 

Buildings at the University of Malta, too, are not compliant with health and safety standards. The Shift News says that Faculty of Science student Christopher Dimech conducted a geohazard assessment on a site housing the faculty which failed the test. The report was presented to the university rector.

 

Kindergarten educator Romina Baldacchino won a European eTwinning award from among 860 competitors. One News says that Baldacchino participated with a project named Storytelling Leads to Robotics designed for children aged six.

 

The compilation of evidence against murder suspects in the Daphne Caruana Galizia case has continued in court today. TVM says that one of the two boats held by the police is expected to be released.

 

Newsbook says that Vodafone will testify in the next hearing of the assassination case says when it is expected to give details about how data is processed. IT expert Martin Bajada is will also take the stand in the same hearing.

 

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said that studies for a metro system are at an advanced stage but says the government will look at the possibility after the first of phase of the roadworks project is completed. LovinMalta quotes Muscat who said that the disposal of construction waste from an underground system presents a challenge.

 

db Group announced in a statement that it is studying the recommendations by the Planning Authority tribunal about the City Centre development, but it does not expect many changes to the project. The Malta Independent says that the PA tribunal came out in favour of the development on Thursday but has ordered some changes to the plan.
