Between March and December Italy had over 108,000 excess deaths

Between March and December, Italy reported 108,178 more deaths,  than the average for the same period in the years 2015-2019 (21% excess). 

This is highlighted by the Iss-Istat report on the 2020 mortality analysis for the total of deaths and for the subset of Covid-19 positive subjects who died. 

In 2020, the total number of deaths was the highest ever recorded since the Second World War: 746,146 deaths, 100,526 more than the 2015-2019 average.
