Boeing 737 MAX won’t be allowed to fly in Malta’s airspace as of tonight following EASA recommendation to EU member states

The aviation regulator said the airspace would be closed for Boeing 737 MAX as of 8pm tonight following a recommendation by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, MaltaToday reports.

A spokesperson for the directorate said the decision had been taken following a communication by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

“As a precautionary measure, EASA will publish soon an Airworthiness Directive, effective as of 19:00 UTC, suspending all flight operations of all Boeing Model 737-8 MAX and 737-9 MAX aeroplanes in Europe,” EASA said in an email to civil aviation departments.

In addition, EASA said it would be publishing a “Safety Directive, effective as of 19:00 UTC, suspending all flights performed by third-country operators into, within or out of the EU of the above mentioned models.”
