Strong 6.1 magnitude earthquake strikes India

The quake’s epicentre was located 70 miles (113 km) northwest of the town of Dibrugarh, in the Assam region

It had a shallow depth of 18.6 miles (30 km), the USGS said.

China’s official state news agency Xinhua said the quake was felt in Tibet, which neighbours the Indian state.

The US Geological Survey estimated there was a “low likelihood” of casualties and damage from the quake.
