The new words being added to the Scrabble dictionary have been announced.
For the first time since 2015, players of the game will now have a number of new words they can play for points.
Collins, which compiles the list, includes new words based on trends and spikes in usage.
Here are some of the new words from among the new words and their meaning:
- Agender – of a person who does not identify with a gender
- Antifa – anti-fascist organisation
- Bae – sweetheart or lover
- Blud – friend
- Burquini – swimming costume covering the whole body apart from the face, hands and feet
- Cisgender – having an assigned birth gender and gender identity that are the same
- Ew – expression of disgust
- Fatberg – large mass of fat in a sewer
- Fleek – as in “on fleek”, stylish
- Genderqueer – person with a non-traditional gender identity
- Hackerazzo – person who hacks a celebrity’s personal computer
- Hench – fit and muscular
- Incel – involuntary celibate
- Kompromat – potentially damaging documents, photographs, etc kept for blackmail
- Mansplaining – of a man explaining something to a woman in a condescending way
- Manspreading – when a male passenger spreads his legs into the seats beside him
- Misgender – refer to a person as the wrong gender
- Ok – okay
- Remainer – person who remains
- Qapik – monetary unit of Azerbaijan
- Shebagging – when a female passenger places her bag on the seat beside her
- Transphobia – hatred or fear of transgender people (18 points)
- Upskirting – taking photographs under a woman’s skirt or dress without consent
- Ze – gender-neutral pronoun
- Yowza – used to express enthusiasm or excitement
