Libyan Prime Minister al-Sarraj to visit Malta on Monday

Malta Elections – Miriam Dalli first MEP to be elected with 51,000 first preference votes. The other five MEPs are Roberta Metsola (PN), Alfred Sant (PL), David Casa (PN), Josianne Cutajar (PL) and Alex Agius Saliba (PL).

The Labour Party landslide victory dominates the front pages of Malta’s newspapers. Here is the way the Maltese newspapers report the results of the elections in Malta.

The Malta Independent leads with the results of the European Parliament elections which elected four PL candidates: Miriam Dalli, Alfred Sant, Alex Agius Saliba, and Josianne Cutajar; and two PN candidates: Roberta Metsola and David Casa.

The Times quotes Prime Minister Joseph Msucat who described the Labour Party victory ‘historic’ as the party won by 51,000 votes more than the Nationalist Party. PN Leader Adrian Delia said in a statement that he would fight on.

Malta Today describes the results ‘Delia’s Disater’ as the Nationalist Party trails the Labour Party by more than 19 percent. The paper reports that Imperium Europa attracted 10,000 votes while Partit Demokratiku and Alternattiva Demoktratika received 7,000 between them.

L-Orizzont says that the PL received a total of 55.9 percent of the votes vast while the PN collected 36.2 percent.

In-Nazzjon says that the PN accepts the electoral result ‘with the greatest humility’ as it announces Labour’s victory of the fourth MEP seat. The paper says the European People’s Party is set to remain the biggest grouping in the European Parliament.
