Britain to have a new Prime Minister on July 23rd

The announcement of Britain’s next prime minister has been set for the 23rd of July, with the transfer of power expected to be swift.

The Conservative Party in a statement said that either Boris Johnson or Jeremy Hunt will be announced as Britain’s new prime minister on Tuesday July 23, .

The party said a postal ballot of the 160,000 or so Conservative Party members to decide who will replace Theresa May as leader would close on July 22 with the winner announced the following day.

They will take over as prime minister the next day, after Theresa May’s final Prime Minister’s Questions. The party confirmed the date this afternoon.

The field has been narrowed down already, with contenders such as Sajid Javid, Michael Gove and Rory Stewart knocked out during voting by MPs.
