Good morning
This is our weekly overview of the main forthcoming events in the European Union including EU Council, Commission and Parliament meetings and other EU-related conferences and events. Events for the week of 8 to 14th July 2019
Monday 8 July, In the Ukrainian capital Kiev, the EU-Ukraine summit opens. At the 21st EU-Ukraine summit in Kyiv, leaders will reaffirm the strength of the political and economic ties between the EU and Ukraine. They will also discuss the way ahead on EU-Ukraine relations.
President Donald Tusk and President Jean-Claude Juncker will represent the EU at the summit. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will represent Ukraine. This will be the first summit that he attends following his election in April 2019.
In Brussels the European Parliament Committee Meetings begin. They are primarily responsible for preparing the legislative work for the Parliament’s plenary, based on which it adopts legislative resolutions.
The Eurogroup holds its meeting and will discuss the third enhanced surveillance report on Greece. The report is not linked to a decision on the policy contingent debt measures. Ministers will discuss the budgetary situation in the eurozone, focusing on prospects for 2020. The institutions will brief the Eurogroup on the main findings of the 11th post-programme surveillance mission to Spain which took place from 7 to 8 May. Ministers will take stock of the outcome of the European Commission’s sectoral consultations and the latest economic analysis from the ECB as regards the international role of the euro. Ministers will be informed about the Commission’s decisions in the context of the spring 2019 round of fiscal surveillance for Italy.
Ministers will also be informed about the process for the appointment of the next ECB President.
Tuesday 9 July, the Economic and Financial Affairs Council meets. Ministers will hold a discussion on EU’s own resources and new sources of financing in view of the multiannual financial framework (MFF) package for 2021-2027. The Council will adopt the country specific recommendations which conclude the European Semester exercise for 2019. The Council may also adopt decisions and/or recommendations on the implementation of the Stability and Growth Pact. The Finnish Council presidency will also present its work programme on economic and financial matters.
In Brussels, the temporary study group on sustainable food of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), together with the Food Lawyers’ Network (FLN), are organizing a one-day conference on innovation in food.

Wednesday 10 July, President Donald Tusk, travels to Yerevan, Armenia, for a meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan
Thursday 11 July, the informal meeting of environment ministers will be held in Helsinki Finland. Ministers will explore three themes: circular economy, biodiversity and climate change. Europe’s future wellbeing and prosperity depend on our ability to find solutions to the climate crisis and the loss of biodiversity.
In Brussels, the Ad Hoc Working Party on the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism for Bulgaria and Romania meets.
