Photo Story: Protests in Brisbane

People gather during a protest at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, 31 July 2019. Hundreds have gathered to protest against funding agreements between Australian universities and Chinese government funded education organizations in Queensland.

Organisers expect about 500 people to protest funding agreements between Australian universities and Chinese government-funded education organisations in Queensland.

The student protest, to be held at the University of Queensland, comes after a violent clash between Hong Kong and pro-China demonstrators at the university last week.

In another part of Brisbane a small group of activists from Extinction Rebellion has staged a separate protest in this Australian city in a bid to raise awareness about climate change, this time targeting the offices of The Courier-Mail, as they threaten to “immobilize the city” until all of their demands are met.
