Photo Story: The 50th Anniversary of the Woodstock Fesitval

People look out at a giant number ’50’ made with a peace sign mowed into the field at the Woodstock Festival Monument, located at the site of the original Woodstock festival, in Bethel, New York, USA.

The land, which was once farmland owned by Max Yasgur and is now shared by Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, was the site of the famous concert on 15, 16 and 17 August 1969.

Woodstock was a music festival which attracted an audience of more than 400,000.

Thirty-two acts performed outdoors despite sporadic rain among them Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Jefferson Airplane and so many more were the major bands of the underground music scene. It has become widely regarded as a pivotal moment in popular music history, as well as the definitive nexus for the larger counterculture generation.
