Twitter’s CEO account hacked

Hackers took over the Twitter account of Twitter’s chief executive, Jack Dorsey, on Friday and used the account to broadcast a string of racist messages and bomb threats.

In the posts, the attackers claimed that Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters would be bombed, and used Mr. Dorsey’s account to retweet posts from several individuals appearing to claim responsibility for the hack.

Some of the tweets were up for about 30 minutes before Twitter took them down.

The tweets included messages such as “Hitler is innocent” and, using a vulgarity, asked “bald skeleton head tramp,” apparently referring to Dorsey, to unsuspend certain accounts.

Later, Twitter pointed the blame at Dorsey’s cell carrier, saying that “the phone number associated with the account was compromised due to security oversight by the mobile provider,” which apparently allowed the hackers to send the tweets using text messages.
