French air traffic control computer failure delays flights around Europe

Flights around Europe are facing delays because of problems affecting French air traffic control.

Flights have been grounded and delayed due to a computer failure of air traffic control systems in France, with some journeys at risk of cancellation.

Eurocontrol, which monitors air traffic across Europe, is reporting as off 10.20am there are 5,838 hours of delays across the continent, with London Gatwick the most clogged up airport.

In the UK, British Airways said an “outage” had affected flights travelling through French and Spanish airspace.

Easyjet said it was experiencing disruption due to a “partial failure of French air traffic control systems”.

Paris Airport tweeted that a “national computer failure related to the centralisation of flight plans” on Sunday morning was now resolved. Spain’s air traffic control tweeted to confirm the issue stemmed from a French computer error and had been resolved, although delays would continue for some time.

But it warned that delays are still expected.
