450,000 flee Rafah in a week – UN

Approximately 450,000 Palestinians have fled Rafah in the past week, according to the UN, amid reports of Israeli tanks advancing further into the southern Gaza city.

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees, Unrwa, has highlighted the dire conditions faced by people, including exhaustion, hunger, and fear.

Meanwhile, Israel’s military has stated that it is conducting ongoing operations against what it terms as “terror targets” in the eastern part of the city, where over a million individuals had sought shelter. Recent Israeli actions in northern Gaza have also led to the displacement of an additional 100,000 people.

Additionally, Israeli forces have re-entered areas like Zeitoun and Jabalia, citing the reorganization of Hamas in these locations. The military issued evacuation orders for civilians in eastern Rafah and Jabalia as a precautionary measure, although the total number of displaced individuals in recent days accounts for almost a quarter of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million.
