Trump signals backing for Florida marijuana legalisation

Donald Trump has indicated his support for legalizing marijuana for personal use in Florida, just ahead of a vote on the issue in November.

The Republican presidential nominee expressed on his Truth Social platform that he believes voters are likely to pass the measure “whether people like it or not,” and emphasized that “it should be done correctly.”

This position contrasts with other senior Republicans, such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who has argued that legalizing recreational cannabis would “be bad for quality of life.” Florida legalized medicinal marijuana in 2016.

According to the Pew Research Center, cannabis is legal for both personal and medical use in 24 states, with an additional 14 states permitting medical marijuana only. Trump stated, “Someone should not be a criminal in Florida, when this is legal in so many other states.”
