Britain’s Labour Party unveiled plans to implement the most comprehensive legislative agenda for a new government in decades. This includes new laws set to be introduced this autumn aimed at enhancing employee rights and providing better protection for renters. With Parliament set to reconvene from its summer break on Monday, Leader of the House of Commons Lucy Powell announced that upcoming legislation will shift power from employers to workers and enable tenants to contest unfair rent hikes.

The Employment Rights Bill will ban zero-hour contracts, affecting around 1 million people in Britain who currently work without guaranteed hours and only get paid for the hours they work. It will also prohibit “fire and rehire” practices.

The Renters’ Rights Bill will eliminate the risk of arbitrary evictions and make it illegal for landlords to discriminate against families with children.
