UK faces ‘significant flooding’; football match postponed

Heavy rain is hitting parts of England and Wales, with the Met Office issuing an amber weather warning for much of central and southern England.

A month’s worth of rainfall has fallen for some parts of the country since midnight.

Meanwhile, AFC Wimbledon’s match against Newcastle United tomorrow night has been called off after “extensive” floods.

A yellow weather warning is also covering Wales as well as most of England

The Environment Agency currently has 12 flood warnings, when flooding is expected, and a further 78 flood alerts, signalling flooding is possible.

A number of schools have been shut today in one of the worst-hit counties.

A number of towns in Bedfordshire have been badly hit after torrential rain and subsequent flooding over the weekend and into today.

Alongside houses and businesses, schools have been affected by the flooding.
