Pope says Oct 7 day of prayer and fasting for peace

Monday October 7 will be a Christian day of prayer and fasting for peace on the anniversary of the Hamas attacks on Israel, Pope Francis told his weekly general audience Wednesday.

The Sunday before that there will be a rosary and a supplication to the Virgin at St Mary Major, he added.

“To invoke from the intercession of the Most Holy Mary the gift of peace, next Sunday I will go to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore where I will recite the Holy Rosary and address a heartfelt supplication to the Virgin; if possible, I also ask you, members of the Synod, to join me on that occasion,” said the 87-year-old Argentine pontiff.

“And, the following day, October 7, I ask everyone to experience a day of prayer and fasting for peace in the world”, he said at the end of the homily of the mass in St.Peter’s Square for the opening of the Synod of Bishops.
