The international friendly football match between Malta and Turkmenistan, scheduled for October 10, 2024, has been cancelled due to Turkmenistan’s inability to obtain travel authorisation from their government to travel to Malta. Despite approval from FIFA, UEFA, and the Asian Football Confederation, attempts to resolve the issue through diplomatic channels were unsuccessful.
The Malta Football Association (MFA) expressed appreciation for the support provided by Malta’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs. In light of the cancellation, Malta will focus on preparing for their crucial UEFA Nations League match against Moldova on Sunday, October 13.
Fans who had purchased tickets for the Turkmenistan match can either request a refund or exchange their tickets for the upcoming Moldova match.
