Trump set to win House of Representatives majority

Edison Research projected on Wednesday that President-elect Donald Trump’s Republican Party will hold control of both houses of Congress when he takes office in January. This majority will allow him to advance a policy agenda focused on cutting taxes and reducing the size of the federal government.

In the House of Representatives, Republicans are expected to secure at least the 218 seats needed for a majority, with nine races still undecided. They have also confirmed a Senate majority of at least 52-48, with one race yet to be finalized after the November 5 election.

During Trump’s first term from 2017 to 2021, his most notable achievement was implementing significant tax cuts, which are set to expire next year. Both this legislation and President Joe Biden’s landmark $1 trillion infrastructure bill were enacted when their respective parties controlled both chambers of Congress.

However, over the past two years of divided government, Biden has faced challenges in passing new legislation, and Congress has struggled to fulfill its basic function of securing funding to keep the government operational.
