MEPs secure additional funds for key EU priorities in 2025 budget

MEPs have ensured stronger EU support for health, humanitarian aid, border management, and climate action in the 2025 budget.

In a deal reached with Member States’ governments, the European Parliament has maintained an ambitious budget framework that prioritises current challenges and improves citizens’ lives. Following February’s revision of the EU’s long-term budget, MEPs safeguarded funding for Ukraine and ensured repayment costs for the European Recovery Instrument (EURI), while protecting essential programmes like Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe.

Parliament also negotiated an extra €230.7 million for critical initiatives, including research, education, climate action, and crisis response. Additional savings contributed €422 million for Erasmus+ and €20 million for Horizon Europe, further bolstering the 2025 budget.
