Police say about 10 people, including the suspected gunman, have been killed in a shooting at an education centre in central Sweden.
The attack occurred on Tuesday afternoon at Risbergska school in Orebro, 200km west of Stockholm. Police believe the male perpetrator acted alone and was not previously known to them. No motive has been identified.
Authorities warned the death toll could rise as several people were injured, with at least four undergoing surgery.
“This is an extremely tragic incident,” said Orebro police chief Roberto Eid Forest. The Swedish Prime Minister called it “a very painful day for all in Sweden.”
Police initially reported five victims and were investigating attempted murder, arson, and aggravated weapons offences. Local media later reported multiple fatalities before police confirmed “around 10” deaths but declined to give an exact number.
Officials said there was no indication of a terrorist motive.
