St Valentine’s Day celebrations in Italy generate 900 million euros

St Valentine’s Day is worth over 900 million euros including special meals, flowers, presents and holidays, according to a survey published Thursday by the National confederation of artisans and small, medium-sized businesses (CNA).

The poll carried out by CNA among associates revealed that a romantic restaurant meal was the favourite choice of those marking the special occasion in Italy this year.
A perfume, chocolates, clothing, a spa appointment, an exhibit, performance or a movie night followed in this order, according to the poll.
Flowers are widely used to celebrate the day not only as a romantic gesture but also as a gift to parents, children, siblings and friends, according to the survey.
The poll also showed that a rising number of people this year will be marking the occasion with a weekend away thanks to the fact that St Valentine’s falls on a Friday, mainly with a one or two-night hotel stay, for an estimated turnover of over 300 million euros.
