Christian Borg acquitted of perjury charges after prosecution failure
Businessman Christian Borg has been acquitted of perjury charges after the prosecution failed to provide enough evidence to prove its case. Borg was accused of giving false testimony in a civil case before magistrate Gabriella Vella in January 2021, following a complaint filed by the magistrate. The prosecution did not submit the transcript of Borg’s testimony, which was necessary to establish perjury. Although affidavits and official documents were presented, the lack of a verbatim record weakened the case. The court ruled that the charges were not proven to the required legal standard and acquitted Borg. (Maltatoday)
