Photo Story: Algae bloom in Hungary

Freshwater algae proliferate in the southern tip of Lake Balaton at the mouth of the Zala river near Fenekpuszta, southwestern Hungary.

Researchers suspect that phosphorus escaped from the lakebed sediment could be responsible for this relatively rare phenomenon, which started in late August.
