Finnish Workplaces See Rapid Rise in Foreign Recruitment

A big shift is underway in Finnish working life — and not even poor employment numbers have managed to slow it down.

Finnish working life is undergoing internationalisation. Workplaces now employ more foreigners than ever before, reports Kauppalehti, citing a new survey by Finnish staffing firm Barona.

It found that 45 percent of Finnish companies already have international employees on their payrolls.

Barona defined international workers as those with a foreign background who do not speak Finnish, whether they already live in Finland or are recruited from abroad to work there.

The biggest reason for hiring internationals is simple: the skills cannot be found among Finns.

Last year, more than one in ten people working in Finland had a foreign background.
