Photo Story: Mexico celebrates Independence Day

Fireworks lit up the sky as thousands of people congregate on the Zocalo esplanade during the traditional Grito de Dolores (Cry of Dolores) commemoration in Mexico City, Mexico, Sunday evening, on the eve of the country’s 209th Independence Day.

Mexico celebrates on 16 September its independence from Spanish rule since 1810.

With musical festivals and typical food stalls, thousands of Mexicans will fill the country’s squares to commemorate the Independence Festivities.
