Four Maltese interpreters complete EP Academy training

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has presented certificates to four Maltese interpreters who successfully completed training at the European Parliament Interpreting Academy.

The graduates, all translators working within the European Parliament, undertook an intensive 20-week full-time programme aimed at addressing the growing demand for qualified conference interpreters, particularly in Maltese.

Speaking during a closing ceremony, Dr Metsola praised the participants’ dedication and stressed the importance of their role within the EU’s institutions. She said interpreters and translators were essential in ensuring that political decisions are not only heard but understood by citizens across member states.

Highlighting the importance of Maltese in the EU, she noted that their work ensures people in Malta and Gozo can follow parliamentary proceedings in their own language. She also reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening opportunities for the use of Maltese at European level.

The academy, a flagship initiative of the Parliament, aims to equip participants with advanced interpreting skills and institutional knowledge, while supporting multilingualism as a core principle of the European Union.
