Government crises loom in Romania and Slovenia

Political instability is expected to intensify in Romania and Slovenia, with both countries facing potential government crises in the coming weeks.

In Romania, the Social Democrats are widely expected to withdraw support for Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, threatening the collapse of his coalition government. The four-party pro-European coalition, formed after a divisive presidential election, has faced ongoing disagreements over reforms. Bolojan has said he will not resign, but the withdrawal of ministers would leave the government without a parliamentary majority. An early election could see gains for the far-right Alliance for Uniting Romanians.

In Slovenia, Prime Minister Robert Golob has confirmed he failed to form a new government after recent elections and will move into opposition. His inability to secure coalition partners opens the possibility of a return to power for Janez Janša.
