Italy to face nationwide general strike on May 18

Italy is set to face a nationwide general strike on May 18 involving multiple sectors, with disruptions and possible closures expected across parts of the country.

According to Italian state broadcaster Rai News, the strike will involve workers from several categories in both the public and private sectors.

The industrial action is expected to affect transport services, including rail and local public transportation, as well as schools, healthcare services and public offices. Disruptions and delays are possible in several areas.

Rai News reported that unions called the strike as part of broader protests over labor and workplace issues.

Minimum guaranteed services required under Italian law are expected to remain in place during the strike.

Authorities advised the public to check service updates ahead of travel or appointments on the day of the strike.
