People are more concerned about the prospect of a Jeremy Corbyn government than a no-deal Brexit – Chancellor Javid

Failing to deliver Brexit could “tear the very fabric of our democracy”, Sajid Javid has warned. In his conference speech he cautioned those who would seek to disrupt the result of the referendum.

The Telegraph reports Javid saying “If we fail to deliver on the instruction of the British people we are in danger of tearing the very fabric of our democracy.”

“A fabric that has been carefully woven together over centuries. If we do that, I fear we may not be able to stitch it up again.” Mr Javid said that if people “are going to have faith in the ballot box” then “we absolutely have to follow through on that vote”.

He said that in his conversations with business owners, they are more concerned about the prospect of a Jeremy Corbyn government than a no-deal Brexit.

“The real project to be fearful about is the agenda of the Labour Party,” he added.

My Javid announced a spending blitz with £220 million for buses, £5 billion for full-fibre broadband and £29 billion for roads.
