At least 5 killed in knife attack on Paris police HQ

At least four people were killed, according to FRANCE 24 correspondent Karim Hakiki. At least five people were wounded in the attack, one of them seriously.

The assailant, who was a security official, was also killed during the attack.

The surrounding area, including the metro station at Cité, was sealed off in a security operation.

French channel BFM TV reported that one of the officers was seriously injured during the attack but Paris police had no immediate comment.

French news channel BFM-TV reported that French interior minister Christophe Castaner was heading to the scene.

It comes a day after French police went on strike across the country over increasing violence towards officers and rising suicide rates within the force.
