And after all of this what are we left with?… Professor Andrew Azzopardi

We are left with an assassinated journalist (and with a family that is still unable to bereave);

We are left with an Opposition that is trying to juggle (I believe unsuccessfully) with 3 factions; ta’ Adrian, ta’ Simon u tal-PD;

We are left with a class struggle within the PN;

We are left with a Labour Party that is starting to show cracks in its indefatigable armour;

We are left with a PM who is on the defensive, ushered and protected by his assistants (when I know him to be enduring when faced with the media);

We are left with a President who has to decide after two refusals (one directly by the PM and the other by the Cabinet) whether to allow for a Presidential pardon (which I can’t see happening);

We are left with a civil society which is even more angry and growing in numbers;

We are left with people feeling confused and uncertain;

We are left with a middle-man who will go out scot free;

We are left with a business mogul who claims that he can tell us a lot about people close to the PM and their alleged wrong doings (but it now depends on the judgement of HE, when a change in position would mean that he is going against a Cabinet decision;

We are left with an ‘us’ and ‘them’ schism that is growing to 60’s and 80’s proportions;

We are left with the Fourth Estate as one of our last Institutions standing up to this mayhem;

We are left with a number of academics taking the front line in resisting to this political blockade;

We are left with a Police Force that notwithstanding has apprehended the killers, the middle-man and the one who has commissioned the killing – it is still criticised from all quarters;

We are left with implanted doubts on the Police Chief Investigator;

We are left with doubts on how this whole situation unravelled and whether it was tainted;

We are left with a business community that is in bed with the politicians, and still at it;

We are left with people who are completely alienated from politics;

We are left with a lot of doubt on our Institutions, are they are working or are they not;

We are left with a resistance that is founded on women activism;

We are left with no ‘Left’
