The Independent reports that Police Commissioner Lawrence Cutajar resigned on Friday. Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri accepted the resignation and Carmelo Magri is temporarily replacing Cutajar as Acting Police Commissioner.
A second story follows a huge anti-mafia operation in Sicily to stop criminal activities that are thought to have defrauded the EU of €10 million in agricultural aid funds. An investigation report says that Malta and other countries were used by the mafia to launder the money.
